Prakasam Collector urges officials to prepare list of polling stations ahead of local body polls

Ahead of the upcoming local body elections, Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu directed the officials to prepare a list of polling stations across the 62 divisions under Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) limits after the delimitation process. Presently, there are 50 divisions under the Ongole Municipal Corporation.

In a special meeting with officials of village Panchayats and Municipal Corporation at the Prakasam Bhavan in Ongole on Tuesday, the Collector said that additional ballot boxes should be provided to conduct the elections in view of the formation of the new divisions.

The Collector suggested to appoint Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant EROs required for the conduct of elections. He also requested that the draft voters list be released by September 3.

Speaking about the changes following the delimitation process, Mr. Raja Babu said, "Kandukur currently has 30 wards, and another 10 will be added. In Chimakurthi, the number of wards is expected to rise from 20 to 22. The number of wards will increase from 20 to 28 in Darsi and from 20 to 32 in Addanki respectively."

Based on these changes, the officials were advised to make the necessary preparations. The Collector ordered the efficient execution of a door-to-door survey covering SC, ST, and BC voters. He noted that elections were scheduled for 514 Panchayats, involving a total of 5,847 polling stations.

He further said that the process of identifying SC, ST, and BC voters will take place on August 23-24. The draft voter list will be published on August 25. The objections over the voter list will be accepted during August 26-28. The verification process for SC, ST, and BC voters will be conducted from August 29 to September 2.

The process of verifying and validating the voters' list would continue during September 3-6. Instructions were given to release the final list of SC, ST, and BC voters on September 7, and to keep the public regularly informed about these matters.
