Two donation boxes were stolen from Kannannur Bhagavathy Temple at Thrithala, marking the third theft reported at the temple. The theft came to light when the chief priest arrived at the temple for the day rituals and found the doors of the nadappanthal open on Wednesday. Two donation boxes kept on a plastic stool in front of the sanctum sanctorum were found missing.

The Thrithala police reached the temple after receiving a complaint from the temple authorities. They inspected the premises and launched an investigation. The donation boxes are usually opened at the end of every month to count the money. Each box normally contains between ₹4,000 and ₹6,000, according to temple offcials. A ‘navaha yajna’ was held at the temple during the first week of this month, attracting a large number of devotees. Temple authorities suspect that the boxes may have contained a larger amount than usual.
