No Onam relief for Keralam PRD’s PRISM contract workers as three months’ salaries remain pending

Nearly six months after waiting for their salary arrears for three months, a section of former contract workers of the Information and Public Relations Department’s (I&PRD) PRISM project have heaved a sigh of relief with the Keralam government releasing the dues on the eve of Onam.

Around 100 employees across the State started receiving the dues on Monday, their representatives said. Many of them had been earlier left without any income for nearly six months after the extended period of their term ended in May.

The employees, recruited through examination and interview were assigned to communicate the government’s welfare and development programmes through the media. Though the panel’s contract expired in January, its tenure was extended by three months in view of the Assembly election.

The monthly remuneration of the workers, including sub-editors, content editors and information assistants, ranged from ₹16,940 to ₹21,780. The total salary arrears were estimated at around ₹53 lakh.

The affected workers had recently written a letter to the I&PRD highlighting their plight during the Onam days and demanding immediate release of the pending salaries.
