The Neuro Cath Lab at Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (GIPMER) has completed six months of service, expanding access to advanced neurovascular care for patients from Delhi and neighbouring States. Inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh in February this year, the lab provides diagnostic cerebral and spinal digital subtraction angiography, endovascular coiling of intracranial aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformation embolisation.

The lab has recently begun thrombectomy for acute stroke in collaboration with the departments of Neurology and Radiology, and is undertaking complex neurovascular cases. Its key feature is a hybrid approach combining open microsurgical and endovascular expertise for case-specific planning, while also offering fellowships and observerships for neurosurgeons.

Anita Jagetia, director Professor and Head, Department of Neurosurgery, GIPMER, Anita Jagetia, director Professor and Head, Department of Neurosurgery, GIPMER, said the facility had enhanced the institute’s ability to manage complex cases and acute stroke using advanced endovascular techniques.
