The Peechi Dam will open all four of its spillway shutters on Monday morning (August 31, 2026) as the water level in the reservoir continues to rise following rainfall in its catchment areas.

The shutters will be raised by two inches (5 cm) each at 11 a.m. on Monday. At 2 p.m., they will be raised by another two inches, taking the total opening to four inches (10 cm).

The decision has been taken with the approval of the District Collector to regulate the rising water level in the reservoir. Water will also be released into the Manali river through the KSEB small hydel power generation station.

Officials said further rainfall is expected in the coming days under the influence of a low-pressure system, cyclonic circulation and monsoon, making it necessary to regulate the reservoir level.

The District Collector has warned residents along the Manali and Karuvannur rivers to remain vigilant as the water level in the rivers could rise by up to 30 cm from the present level following the release of water from the dam.
