An office of Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee located at Camac Street was ransacked on Thursday morning (September 3, 2026).

Mr. Banerjee alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters were behind the attack. Videos shared by the Trinamool Congress leaders showed three to four masked men removing equipment from the office, with shattered glass and other materials scattered around, indicating vandalism.

“If this is how the Opposition is to be treated in West Bengal, through violence, vandalism and intimidation, then the Chief Minister has no moral authority to remain in office. He must resign. This is not democracy. This is political thuggery,” Mr. Banerjee posted on social media, sharing videos captured from close-circuit television cameras inside the premises.

The vandalism is reported to have occurred around 4:30 a.m. Trinamool Congress leader Upasana Chowdhury reached the office and said that the police did not respond despite multiple calls reporting the incident.

The Diamond Harbour MP urged the judiciary, particularly the Calcutta High Court, to take “serious note of what is happening and acts to uphold the rule of law in West Bengal”.

The premises at 9 Camac Street in Kolkata has been used by Abhishek Banerjee over the past several years. Personnel and Kolkata Police and senior Trinamool Congress leaders on August 27 were embroiled in a scuffle over removing a party hoarding on the building.

The police have registered FIRs and questioned Trinamool leaders in connection with the incident. Abhishek Banerjee and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’ Brien were also summoned by Kolkata Police in connection with the incident. The premises was inspected by personnel of West Bengal Fire Services, who alleged unauthorised construction.

The Trinamool Congress general secretary is facing more than 16 FIRs after the BJP government came to power in May 2026. The Calcutta High Court has granted him protection from arrest in some of the police cases.
