T he death toll from the devastating Nepal-Tibet flash floods surged to 1,243 on Wednesday (September 2, 2026), as rescuers battled rain and debris to trace those believed to be trapped in the tunnels along the course of the Bhotekoshi river and underground powerhouses in the Himalayan nation.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah said the disaster’s link to climate change must be strongly raised with the international community, as symbolic funerals were held by families of locals still missing after last week’s flash floods.

India delivered a fifth tranche of over five tonnes of essential medicines to flood-ravaged Nepal, alongside an 11-member rescue team. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the flight also carried an 11-member specialised team with more than six tonnes of rescue equipment.

India on Wednesday (September 2) delivered a fifth tranche of over five tonnes of essential medicines to flood-ravaged Nepal, alongside an 11-member rescue team.

The death toll from last week’s flash floods in Nepal has risen to over 1,000 after rescue workers recovered more bodies from affected areas, according to Nepalese authorities.

While emergency teams have rescued more than 12,000 people, roughly 4,000 remain missing as search and rescue operations continue.

“A fifth Indian Air Force flight carrying humanitarian assistance reached Kathmandu today. It carried about 5.5 tonnes of medical supplies, including antibiotics, analgesics, surgical items and other essential medicines,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

An agonising wait turned into sheer desperation for families in Maharashtra’s Thane as 10 local pilgrims remained completely untraceable a week after ferocious flash floods devastated the Nepal-China border, severing communication lines and wiping out entire transit checkpoints.
