All old-age homes and women’s hostels functioning in the district must be registered and obtain licences in accordance with government guidelines, Collector S. Kandasamy has said.

In a statement, the Collector said the directive covered women’s hostels run by government institutions, colleges, industries, hospitals, textile shops, non-governmental organisations, trusts, societies, religious institutions, training centres and private individuals. Temporary hostels and institutions providing care for senior citizens are also covered.

The establishments should apply online through e-Sevai centres, furnishing details of the institution, number of residents, management, building facilities and basic amenities provided. A copy of the licence and the required documents should subsequently be submitted to the District Social Welfare Office on the sixth floor of the Collectorate. Old-age homes and women’s hostels functioning without registration should complete the process within the stipulated deadline. Those already registered should renew their registration before continuing their operations, he said.

Members of the public can inform the officials concerned about deficiencies or violations noticed in old-age homes and women’s hostels. The Collector said strict compliance with the regulations was necessary to ensure the safety and welfare of senior citizens and women. For further details, the public can contact the District Social Welfare Office.
