Nepal flash floods: Here are helpline numbers of Indian Embassy and state governments

Several State governments, along with the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, have activated emergency helplines to assist affected individuals after catastrophic flooding on the Nepal-Tibet border unleashed waves of water and debris, killing at least 160 people and leaving hundreds missing.

The Indian Embassy in Nepal said it was in constant touch with the Nepali government to facilitate the safe evacuation of Indian nationals in distress and coordinate rescue operations.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu have issued emergency helpline numbers for Indian nationals seeking assistance or information. Those requiring help may contact the embassy helplines at +977 985 131 6807 and +977 970 910 7500.

The Nepal Tourism Board also issued emergency contact numbers, including the toll-free number 1234, hotline 1144 and Tourist Police number 9851289445.

The Karnataka government has set up a helpline through the State Emergency Operations Centre to collect information and assist people from the State who may be stranded in Nepal.

The helpline numbers are 1070 and 080-22253707. Individuals may also write to seockarnataka@gmail.com . The Revenue Department has shared a Google form and requested tour operators, family members and stranded persons to provide details so that they can be contacted for rescue and assistance.

A Helpline and Coordination Centre at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi has been activated to provide assistance to residents of Telangana who may be stranded or affected in Nepal.

According to a media release, citizens may contact the helpline on 9871999044, 9949351270 and 9618597969.

The Kerala government has set up a help desk under the aegis of NoRKA-Roots, the field agency of the Department of Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NoRKA), to provide emergency assistance, services and information for Keralites stranded in Nepal following the flash floods.

The help desk was established on the instructions of the Chief Minister’s Office. Those seeking assistance may contact the NoRKA Global Contact Centre on 1800 425 3939 (toll-free) or +91 88020 12345 (missed call from abroad).

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay directed officials to undertake swift and coordinated efforts to trace and rescue people from the State and provide them with necessary assistance. In a post on X, he said officials at Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi had been instructed to coordinate rescue efforts.

The State government also announced round-the-clock toll-free helpline numbers for family members seeking assistance. The helpline number within India is 1800 309 3793.
