Two persons allegedly indulged in carjacking after attacking the driver of the hired vehicle with a knife at Karumpulipatti in Manapparai police station limits in the district on Sunday night. The injured car driver, P. Mohan, 66, of Karur district has been admitted in the Government Hospital, Manapparai, with cut injuries.

Police sources said two persons, aged around 40, came to the car parking lot near the bus stand in Karur around 10 p.m. and told Mr. Mohan that they wanted to hire the vehicle to Manapparai.

Mohan took along with him M. Jayaram, 75, in the car. The vehicle was proceeding towards Manapparai when the two persons asked the driver to stop at a desolate spot near Karumpulipatti on the pretext of attending to nature’s call.

As soon as the driver stopped the vehicle, the two brandished knives and forced Mohan to alight from the vehicle. Mr. Mohan’s friend Jayaram fled the spot and alerted the villagers. Even as Mr. Mohan was talking to the two, one of them stabbed him with a knife causing bleeding injuries and pushed him down from the vehicle. The two fled in the car towards Manapparai. The Manapparai police have registered a case and are investigating.
