China launches all-out search and rescue in Gyirong, Xizang
Wednesday's devastating mudslide has reshaped the landscape around Gyirong Port in southwest China, sweeping away roads and cutting off access to the disaster zone.
The Ministry of Water Resources says the barrier lake has reached its overflow point and begun to discharge water.
Its volume has exceeded 2.5 million cubic meters, enough to fill more than 1,000 Olympic-size swimming pools.
Rescue teams are battling strong currents, unstable terrain and the risk of further landslides as they search for survivors.
