Motorcyclist thrown from bike, killed after riding over 200 km/h on McKnight Boulevard

A 39-year-old male motorcyclist was going nearly three times the posted the speed limit on a major road Wednesday night before his bike was involved in a single-vehicle collision, claiming the rider’s life.

At approximately 7:50 p.m., a motorcyclist was travelling east along McKnight Boulevard approaching Metis Trail N.E., according to a Calgary Police Service news release.

Police believe the driver lost control of the bike and was thrown from it, landing in a median between the Metis Trail off-ramp and McKnight Boulevard N.E.

While impairment is not believed to be a factor, it is thought the rider was travelling in excess of 200 km/h before losing control, police said. The speed limit on that stretch of road is 70 km/h.
