Tire-smoking stunt leads to crash and drug bust near Victoria

A Vancouver Island man has run afoul of the law after crashing his pickup truck in Colwood on Wednesday, an incident that led to his arrest and drug charges. After RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision, a witness told them the driver had been doing burnouts before crashing into a telephone pole near the intersection of Island Highway and Wale Road on Wednesday night.

Police found that driver, a 53-year-old man, had been operating the vehicle despite having a suspended driver’s licence. While he was determined to be sober through roadside checks, RCMP said it saw evidence of illicit narcotics in the truck and arrested the driver in relation to drug trafficking-related offences.

Police said a search found large quantities of narcotics, including approximately 240 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 98 grams of suspected cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia.

The driver was charged with several motor vehicle infractions, including driving without due care and attention, having tinted windows on the vehicle, and stunting. The pickup truck was also impounded.
