51-year-old charged with making death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney

Canada's federal police force said Monday that they've arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly making death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Marc-André Porlier, of Montreal, was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, an RCMP news release said.

The alleged threats were made in an email sent to a number of unnamed individuals, including a senator, police said in the news release.

The accused also threatened "all Canadian police officers," according to the charge sheet.

Porlier was previously found guilty of arson and mischief after he set fire to a church in Toronto in 2017 , police confirmed to CBC News. He was on probation for those crimes, an RCMP spokesperson said.

Porlier appeared in court on Saturday, the news release said. The charges haven't been proven in court.
