Martin Paul Antoine Titou Xamena made threats against park owner after ChatGPT said he was unfairly evicted

A man who tried to fight the owner of a Kalgoorlie-Boulder caravan park because ChatGPT told him he had been unlawfully evicted has been fined $1000.

The court was told Martin Paul Antoine Titou Xamena, a French national working as an underground miner, could now have difficulty with his application for permanent residency in Australia.

The 21-year-old appeared in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to making a threat to unlawfully do an act.

Prosecuting First Class Const. Kim Sullivan said the caravan park owner was grocery shopping in Spudshed with his wife when he made eye contact with Xamena, who also happened to be in the store.

Xamena waited outside the store and, when the owner left, called him over for a fight in the carpark.

The owner declined to fight, and Xamena threatened him by saying, “I really want to f… you up,” and “if I see you, I’ll f… you up”.

The owner and his wife left the Spudshed carpark and drove to Kalgoorlie police station to report what had happened.

Defence lawyer Will Reid said his client had some “tenancy issues” while staying at the caravan park owned by the victim and had been locked out without his belongings.

He said Xamena had done research using AI chatbot ChatGPT and came to believe that he had been unfairly and illegally evicted from the park.

Mr Reid said Xamena was in Kalgoorlie-Boulder on a working holiday visa and hoped to be sponsored to become a permanent resident.
