Boulter heeds lesson on mixing wedding rings and tennis

Katie Boulter will not be wearing her wedding ring during matches at the US Open – or tying it to her shoelace like Andy Murray used to.

British number one Boulter tied the knot with her Australian partner, world No.7 Alex De Minaur, at a ceremony in Tuscany over the summer.

The 30-year-old said she had learned from Murray's mistake after the three-time grand slam champion briefly lost his wedding band at a tournament in California.

The Scot, who married wife Kim in 2015 and used to attach the ring to his trainers for luck, had to appeal for it to be returned after somebody took the shoes.

"No. I learned from Andy. I'm not going to do that," said Boulter. "I don't wear it. Not during matches."

She added: "The wedding was very special. It was nice to kind of pause life for a second and remember that we're all human and there are bigger things than tennis. And yeah, it was truly special.

"But I think we were both keen to kind of get back to work and not lose any momentum and just try and get back as soon as possible."

Boulter, who also said she will keep her surname professionally, has been drawn against 24-year-old American wild card Carol Young Suh Lee, ranked 143, in the first round at Flushing Meadows.
