Next urgently recalls shoes over fall risk

Next has urgently recalled two pairs of women’s sandals after fears shoppers could fall over and hurt themselves.

The Mint Velvet Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals have been pulled from sale after the footbed was found to potentially detach from the wedge heel during use.

A recall notice from the Office for Product Safety and Standards warned:

"If the footbed unexpectedly became dislodged during use, the user could fall leading to injuries."

The products therefore do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations.

Two styles are affected, light tan and brown wedge sandals, both described on the Next website as "neutral suede open toe sandals featuring an espadrille mid wedge heel, gold-tone stud detailing and an ankle strap buckle fastening".

Customers can identify the affected pairs by model numbers Y79431 and Y79434.

The shoes are now listed as "currently unavailable" on Next’s website, while the retailer has recalled the products from customers.

Next has also contacted shoppers who purchased the affected sandals directly.

Anyone who owns one of the recalled pairs should stop wearing them and "follow the instructions sent by Next to arrange for a refund or replacement".

The warning comes as the sandals were designed as a summer style, making them an appealing choice for shoppers looking for a warmer-weather wardrobe update.
