Kim Kardashian feared 'life was over' after getting pregnant

Kim Kardashian feared her "life was over" when she got pregnant with daughter North.

The Kardashians star had stopped using birth control in her relationship with Kanye West after visiting a fertility clinic with her sister Khloé Kardashian - who at the time was trying to start a family with her then-husband Lamar Odom - and discovering she may have problems getting pregnant, but she didn't expect to conceive so quickly.

In an extract from Jonathan Van Meter’s upcoming biography, Citizen Kim, published by The Cut, she said: "Seven months into dating Kanye, I got pregnant. We hadn’t even had a first real fight until I was pregnant."

On visiting the fertility clinic with Khloé, she explained: "I was like, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll get all my blood tests with you so it won’t be scary.’ And we did it together. And then the results came back: ‘Khloé, you’re fine. But Kim? You have some problems.’"

The Skims founder recalled being so "hysterical" when she called Kanye to break the news that he thought someone close to her had passed away.

She said: “I was crying so hard I couldn’t get it out. He thought a family member of mine had died. I was hhh-ahh, hhh-ahh, hhh-ahhh … He was like, ‘What’s happening?’ And I was just like, ‘Oh my God, I’m pregnant.’

"It came so out of left field for me; I was shocked. I don’t know why I was so shocked. Come on. But when the doctors tell you, ‘I don’t think you’ll ever get pregnant, you have the uterus of a 50 year old, you’re going to have to do all this IVF.’"

Kim knew she needed to make the decision as to whether to go through with the pregnancy on her own.

She told Kanye: “I need a week. I don’t want to talk to anyone. I don’t want to talk to you. I need some time to think.”

She ultimately decided to "move forward" and have the baby, but had a very difficult experience carrying daughter North, now 13.

She said: "I had a rough time from the start and a few scares. I thought I miscarried. I was bleeding a lot.

"At about six months, I thought I was going into labour, and then I ended up giving birth about five and a half weeks early...
