Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir addresses Sydney Swans investigation

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir says it was “surprising” to learn of several Sydney players being investigated over an alleged sexual assault, but doesn’t feel the need to remind his own team members of their obligations.

Detectives from Victoria’s Sexual Crimes Squad are investigating a report of a sexual assault in East Melbourne on Monday in the wake of the Swans staying at the Pullman Hotel following their Sunday night game against Essendon at the MCG.

On Monday, 7NEWS revealed Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, James Jordon and Riley Bice were being questioned by police over the alleged assault.

This masthead is not suggesting the players are guilty of any wrongdoing, just that they are assisting police with enquiries.

When asked about the issue facing the Swans on Tuesday morning, Longmuir said: “It’s a bit surprising, I guess, to see something like that come out.

“I’m not going to comment on it any further. They’re serious allegations that have been made, and being investigated, and I just don’t see how everyone piling on is going to help.”

The Dockers coach was then asked whether the incident would prompt him to remind his players about their obligations and what’s at stake.

“I don’t think I need to remind my players when something like this comes up,” he said.
