Man charged after police find drugs hidden inside McDonald’s McMuffin

Police have revealed the wild moment they discovered a bag of drugs allegedly hidden inside a Macca’s breakfast muffin.

The incident happened during a traffic stop in Broome, WA, when officers carried out a search on a car in Cable Beach.

Officers searched through the vehicle and allegedly discovered a McDonald’s breakfast muffin still inside its bag – despite more than two hours having passed since the fast food giant stopped serving brekkie.

The stop happened at about 2.10pm on August 20 in Salleh Street, with breakfast orders at Macca’s ceasing at 11.30am.

After opening the long-since cold McMuffin, they were met with a see-through bag of drugs, allegedly methylamphetamine, concealed between egg and cheese.

Discussing the incident on the constabulary’s WA Police Confidential podcast, senior constable Ben Lucas said the stop happened at an “address of interest” during a targeted drug operation.

“The search of this vehicle was commenced and a bag of hot, fresh, Chicken Treat was located between the rear flood behind the drivers and passenger seats of the vehicle,” Snr Const Lucas said.

“The bag was found to contain fresh, hot, warm, lovely smelling Chicken Treat.

“At the bottom, was a cold, discarded McMuffin that had been secreted at the bottom of the bag. That obviously drew our attention,” he said.

“When it was unwrapped it was found to contain that clip seal bag that contained the methamphetamine.”

Asked by the show presenter whether it was one of the weirdest places he had found meth, the constable said: “Yeah, it caught us all by surprise.”

A WA Police spokesman confirmed that following the discovery, a 39-year-old man was charged with an alleged count of possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply.

He is due to appear before the Derby Magistrates Court on September 9.
