Timothy Blamires: Teacher accused of toilet spy camera sends ‘plea offer’ to prosecutors, court told

A Melbourne teacher accused of installing a spy camera in a school bathroom has made a “plea offer” to resolve the case, a court has been told.

Timothy Blamires, 33, was arrested after a hidden camera was allegedly discovered by a cleaner at Kingswood Primary School, in Melbourne’s southeast, on April 28.

Police allege the device was disguised as a fragrance dispenser and contained footage of male students urinating.

Several parents from the school were present at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning as Mr Blamires’ case was called on for an administrative hearing.

The former year 3 teacher, who has been suspended by the Victorian Institute of Teaching, appeared via videolink wearing his prison greens and trainers, sitting with his hands clasped.

The court was told a plea offer had been made by his defence team, with the case set to be adjourned for six weeks to allow prosecutors to consider “the offer in a reasonable time”.

During Mr Blamires’ last appearance in May, the court was told he was facing six charges, including installing an optical surveillance device on April 21, producing child abuse material, possessing child abuse material and failing to provide a pin code to an electronic device.

In court, Mr Blamires’ lawyer revealed 10 additional charges had since been laid before opposing an application by the media to see his charge sheets.

She argued the case was at a preliminary stage and there was a plea offer “on foot” that could change his charges.

But magistrate Leon Fluxman disagreed, approving the release of the court documents after questioning why it would not be appropriate for the media to report the charges as they currently exist.

Mr Blamires remains in custody after his bail was denied earlier this year and will return to court in November.

“Mr Blamires, I will adjourn your matter to the 20th of November, 2026, for a further committal mention for the prosecution to consider the offer made,” Mr Fluxman said.
