‘Massive bang’: Magnitude 3.4 earthquake rattles homes in southwest Sydney

A magnitude 3.4 earthquake has struck southwest of Sydney, shaking homes and startling residents.

The quake struck near Appin, 16km south of Campbelltown and 35km northwest of Wollongong, at 1.07pm on Friday, according to Geoscience Australia.

One resident told 7NEWS they felt a powerful jolt at their home in Menangle.

“Wow we just had a massive bang and crack in Menangle — whole house shook and dogs took off barking madly. Even horses took off!” they said.
