St James: Man charged with domestic violence-related murder after woman found unresponsive in home

A 38-year-old man has appeared in court accused of a murdering a woman during what police allege is a case of family and domestic violence.

Kah Ming Tan, 28, was found unresponsive in a residence on Taree St in St James, Perth , about 8.30pm on Wednesday.

She was taken to Royal Perth Hospital by St John WA but could not be saved.

7NEWS has spoken to the woman’s sister who is distraught and trying to come to terms with the tragedy.

Homicide detectives allege Younis Qambari, 38, caused the woman’s “extensive injuries which resulted in her death” during an assault in the days before she was rushed to hospital.

Police allege the offending “occurred in the context of a family and domestic relationship”.

Qambari was charged with murder and made a brief appearance in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.

WA Premier Roger Cook said the allegations were “another reminder of how we all must work together to reduce gender-based violence, how we must reduce family and domestic violence”.

“We’ve invested over $800 million extra since coming into office,” he said.

Advocates say that amount does not scratch the surface of what is needed.

“We need to see that investment increase to match the scale of the crisis that it is,” Domestic Violence Training and Support Institute chief executive Jolene Ellat said.

Bail was not considered and Qambari will next appear in court in September.
