Matt Dee: Former Bondi Rescue lifeguard’s death announced on Instagram, Maxi pays tribute

The heartbreaking news was announced on his Instagram page on Wednesday morning alongside an image of Dee holding a beer.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our Matt Dee,” the post read.“Matt touched the lives of many, he also did amazing work and he will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.”

Dee was founder and chief executive of FTW Revolution, a clothing brand connected to Suicide Prevention Australia, for which he was an ambassador.

In a LinkedIn post sharing his role at FTW Revolution, he wrote that “standing up for your fellow soldier” was important.

“When the final curtain’s coming down will you wish you’d spent more time on the couch or the hamster wheel?

“You wanna go out knowing you laughed, traveled, played hard and did your bit for mankind.”

The Instagram post announcing his death said that funeral details would be shared once arrangements had been finalised.“This page is being monitored, however, please understand that we may not be able to respond to every message,” the post continued.

The comments were flooded with tributes to the former lifeguard, who appeared on the show from 2008 to 2017.

“Rest easy brother,” wrote Bondi lifeguard Maxi, followed by a love heart.
