Perth’s hidden rush hour exposed as Youi data reveals 3pm as hotspot for crashes and road incidents across WA

Perth’s afternoon traffic crunch could be more dangerous than the morning commute, with new data revealing 3pm as a major hotspot for crashes and road incidents across WA.

More than one in four Western Australians — 26 per cent — say they have experienced a road incident about 3pm, the highest rate recorded in any State.

A Youi analysis of its claims data has identified two clear Perth hotspots around the 3pm danger hour, with clusters of claims standing out around Joondalup in the north and Midland in the east.

The findings form part of Youi’s new Project 3PM research , which has identified the afternoon rush as a hidden pressure point for Aussie drivers.

More than half of WA residents (53 per cent) are on the road about 3pm on most weekdays as school pick-ups, work commitments, shopping, appointments and the journey home collide.

For 52 per cent of West Australians, 3pm is one of the most stressful times to drive.
