New clues emerge in hunt for gunman after Wollert underworld execution as neighbours fear releasing CCTV

New clues have emerged in the hunt for a gunman wanted over an underworld execution in Wollert, but neighbours fear releasing crucial CCTV footage could put them at risk of retribution.

7NEWS has seen additional CCTV from the Wollert street that shows the hitman who gunned down Ali Albadri inside his home also fired two shots towards two other young men.

The pair had approached a stolen car parked outside the victim’s property on Thursday when they suddenly came under gunfire, forcing them to run for their lives.

The investigation has now shifted focus to the victim, his associates, and whether the contract hit was organised through an encrypted messaging app.

Albadri is an Iraqi refugee with links to notorious crime boss Kaz Hamad and Victoria’s lucrative illicit tobacco trade.

Since Hamad’s arrest in Iraq at the start of the year, there have been reports of increasing infighting that has caused division within his own syndicate, leading to more bloodshed.

More than 48 hours after the latest gangland hit, police are yet to make any arrests.

The screams of a family who came home to discover their father and husband had been murdered in a gangland execution have rung out on a Melbourne street.

The entire crime was caught on camera with two innocent men walking through the suburb of Wollert also unwittingly stumbling upon a gunman lying in wait, forcing them to run for their lives as he turned his weapon on them.

The two men accidentally surprised the gunman preparing to kill Ali Albadri, 42, at his home on Gypsum Dr in Wollert, Melbourne’s north, about 5.30pm on Thursday.

Albadri, understood to be a key figure in Kaz Hamad’s tobacco syndicate, was killed in the daylight ambush, the latest hit in Melbourne’s escalating Middle Eastern crime wars.

“This sort of criminal activity is just abhorrent,” Detective Acting Inspector Paul Scarlett from the Homicide Squad said.

Albadri’s wife and children arrived home moments after, making the grim discovery together.

“The children thought it was a prank. Screaming and crying on the street. Her family was living nearby and they just came to try and console her,” a neighbour said.
