Jack Williams one of three West Coast Eagles delisted, but could land second AFL chance
Jack Williams is one of three West Coast players who have been delisted, but the luckless forward-ruck is set for an opportunity to grab a second chance in the AFL.
The club told Williams, midfielder Clay Hall, and former Adelaide bull Harry Schoenberg they would not be offered contracts for 2027.
It comes as the Eagles look to open up list spots ahead of next month’s national draft, having recruited Trent Rivers and Jack Viney from Melbourne on Wednesday.
Williams is arguably the unluckiest of the quartet, having played 12 games this season amid injuries to several talls, and even kicking six goals in three games from rounds 20 to 22.
However, The West Australian can reveal the 22-year-old East Fremantle product is a chance to play for Tasmania’s VFL side next year, with the Devils interested in the 198cm key position player.
Williams is understood to be in their sights for development under AFL coach Ken Hinkley, and that could lead to a spot on their inaugural list ahead of their introduction in 2028.
The 54-game ex-Eagle also has interest from several VFL clubs, while East Fremantle are also believed to be keen for him to return to Shark Park, where he was drafted from with pick No.57 in 2021.
Hall is also gaining interest from several WAFL clubs, having been delisted after 16 games in three years at Mineral Resources Park.
The Peel Thunder product played a career-best 13 games in 2025, which was coach Andrew McQualter’s first season, but could not crack an AFL appearance this year.
Viney’s recruitment all but sealed the popular 21-year-old’s fate, with Hall having been told to wait until the end of the trade period to learn if he would be offered a new deal.
Hall was drafted with pick No.38 in the 2023 draft and won the Eagles’ emerging talent award last year, but was restricted to only 17 WAFL appearances this season, where he averaged 20 touches playing a variety of roles.
Schoenberg has been let go after only one season at the Eagles, having been given an AFL lifeline after he was delisted by the Crows at the end of 2025.
The 25-year-old had played 62 games for Adelaide in six seasons before joining Deven Robertson (Brisbane) and Finlay Macrae (Collingwood) as midfielders from other clubs to be given a second chance at West Coast.
Schoenberg made his debut in the round three win against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval but managed only four more games for West Coast, with the last coming in the disappointing round eight defeat to Richmond at Optus Stadium.
