Tinnie of the Week: Margaret River Brewing Co. unveils new Jewel in the crown

Jewel Cave is one of the most breathtaking attractions in the Margaret River region.

The subterranean tourist hot spot is the largest tourist cave in the State and reveals hidden chambers, crystal formations and stalagmites, as well as one of the longest straw stalactites in WA.

Look beneath the surface of Margaret River Beer Co.’s Jewel IPA, inspired by the natural wonder, and what you will discover is hop character and fruit flavours.

Think vibrant citrus and stone fruit aromas when you first open the can, including zesty lime, peach, apricot and melon, as well as hints of freshly cut grass and a faint piney aroma.

It pours a bright golden colour, with a slight haze and a thick, frothy white head.

There’s an assertive bitterness up front when you take that first sip, with a resinous flavour balanced with a little sweetness from the light malt backbone. There’s a zing from the lime as well as a refreshing taste from the variety of fruit flavours.

The bitterness fades but lingers around before coming to a crisp, medium-dry finish.

With a modest ABV of 5.8 per cent, it’s an ideal session beer that proves why IPAs remain a crown jewel of craft brewing that never go out of style.
