Wild days-long crime spree from Childers to Noosa as man allegedly fires shot at PolAir helicopter

A man accused of firing a shot at a police helicopter during a wild chase across hundreds of kilometres has been charged with 30 offences, as new vision emerges of the dramatic pursuit.

Police allege the 21-year-old was behind the wheel of a stolen car when he rammed a police vehicle, fled from officers and later opened fire towards a POLAIR helicopter and police vehicle.

The dramatic series of events unfolded between Childers in Queensland ’s Wide Bay region and Noosa on the Sunshine Coast from Monday to Thursday.

New police vision shows a firearm being pointed out the window of a stolen vehicle directly towards the PolAir helicopter as it circled above Noosa.

The same vehicle was allegedly seen speeding through traffic on the wrong side of the road, including through a roundabout.

The chase began about 9am on Monday after multiple firearms were allegedly stolen from an address in Childers.

Police allege the same offenders later stole a white Mitsubishi Triton from an address in Bli Bli.

That vehicle was allegedly driven to Lake MacDonald on the Sunshine Coast, where it was set alight early on Thursday.

Shortly after 3am, police allege the men stole a silver Nissan Maxima from Lake MacDonald Drive in Cooroy.

The vehicle was intercepted at a service station in Nambour about 11am, where police allege the driver rammed a police vehicle before fleeing.

The passenger, a 44-year-old West Gladstone man, was taken into custody.

The driver allegedly continued north on the Bruce Highway, with police pursuing him as he drove dangerously.

Police allege the driver then fired a single shot from a long-arm firearm towards the PolAir helicopter and a police vehicle.
